Whole Wheat Bread

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups scalded milk
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup Fancy Molasses
  • 1 yeast cake or 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 4½ cups whole wheat flour

Directions:

  1. Scald milk, remove from stove, add shortening, salt and molasses. Cool to lukewarm, then crumble yeast cake (or sprinkle dry yeast) into mixture. Gradually add 4 cups of flour. Knead in the last ½ cup of flour. Form into a ball and place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise until double in bulk. Push dough down and allow to rise a second time. Punch dough down and shape into round loaf. Place in a greased 9" pie plate, cover and allow to rise until double in bulk. Bake at 400°F for 40 minutes.
